In this 3D Modeling Maya tutorial, you will learn how to model a simple park bench using some of the tools in Maya. You may want to go through our Maya Basics Tutorial and Texturing in Maya tutorial before starting this tutorial.
You can refer to this video while following the steps given below to 3D model a simple park bench in Maya.
Choose an image of your choice and save it in the project file under source image. When in Maya, to import the image into the scene click on view >> image panel >> import image and select the image that you have downloaded into Maya in its side viewport.
After the image is imported, scale the image and create a cube. Scale the cube to the size of the leg of the park bench and shape it to the reference image that you have imported.
Select the face that leads to the handle and extrude it while scaling and rotating it such that the face shape looks similar to that of the reference image.
Follow the image down until you reach an area where there are 2 paths to follow. Once you reach this point you want to extrude the face such that one face is covering the entire gap that splits to the 2nd path.
Once done with the first path come back to the area that splits into 2. Select the face on the bottom and start extruding to form the rest of the legs.
When you come across an area that splits into 2 on both the left and right side such as this:
Extrude the face such that it fills in the area so that u can extrude from the other 2 sides.
When there is an area where you have to connect one of the areas you have already extruded with another, create one of the extrusions in a similar length to the one that it has to be connected to.
Delete the faces that are touching one another and target weld the vertices together to seal the hole that is now present.
Target weld is located in the poly modeling tab towards the right:
After you create one press Ctrl+D to duplicate it and drag it to a suitable distance from the original.
Once you have finished making the sides of the park bench you can create a cube. Scale it to a suitable length and then align it with the side that you have already created.
Duplicate the cube and place them along the bench sides.
With that, you have created a model of the park bench! Congratulations!
