In this tutorial you will learn how to design a Folder in Corel Draw. We will design the cover, the back and the flip side of the folder with gradients and sparkling effects.

Step 1 : Basic Elements

First of all you have to use CorelDraw with version 11+. In this tutorial I use CorelDraw X5, Okay lets get started. Let’s take a look at the basic elements used to create our design :

Step 2 : Creating Worksheet

Okay, now that you know the steps and elements, we will begin, first of all open your CorelDraw program, now create a new file and set the paper size to Custom, set the Units to Centimeters, resize it into 65 x 35 cm


Step 3 : Creating The Cover Side

Now that we have our worksheet set, now we will begin to create the Cover Side, go to the ” Rectangle Tool ” and create a box shape and resize it into 23 x 31 cm.

Now lets put color in it, go to the ” Fountain Fill Tool ” in the left toolbar and apply the value below, you can create a custom color by double click on the color box.

Okay now we are going to create the sparkling light effect, go to the ” Rectangle Tool ” and create a horizontal box shape similar like below.

Put a Deep Yellow color in it.

After that arrange the horizontal box on top of the Cover Side and go to the ” Interactive Transparency Tool “, apply the value below to create similar.

After that Copy the horizontal box by pressing ” Left + Right mouse “.

Now arrange the copied box on top of the original to create similiar.

Using same steps as above create another similar horizontal box.

After that copy one of the horizontal box, but this time make the transparencies linear by applying the value below.

Flip and copy the box by pressing ” Left + Right mouse ” while dragging it to the right side.

Okay we are going to create the sparkling light, create a circle shape using ” Ellipse Tool ” on the side of the box.

Now go to the ” Interactive Shadow Tool “, and apply the value below to create similar work.

After that go to the ” Bezier Tool ” and create a custom shape similar like below.

Put yellow or white color in it and arrange it to the white shadow to create a sparkle effects.

Repeat the steps above, and create another sparkling effect, make as many as you like.

Now arrange it with the others horizontal boxes.

Now group all the objects by pressing ” Ctrl + G ” and arrange it on top of the Cover Side, after that flip and copy the sparkle, put red color on the copied sparkle.

Okay now we are going to insert the sparkle inside the Cover side, select the sparkle and go to the upper toolbar find ” Effect > PowerClip > Place inside container, after you see the cursor turning into an arrow, click it to the Cover side.

Okay now lets enhance the Cover side by adding more color texture on it, go to the ” Bezier Tool ” and create a custom shape similar like below.

Put red color on the custom shape and go to the ” Interactive Transparency Tool “, appy the value below to create similar work.

After that insert the custom shape into the Cover side using ” PowerClip Tool “.

Step 4 : Creating the Back Side and Flip Side

Select the Cover Side, and then flip and copy it by pressing ” Left + Right mouse ” while dragging it to the left side.

After that create a box shape using ” Rectangle Tool “, and resize it into 16 x 7 cm.

After that go to the upper toolbar and make the corner rounded by applying the value below.

Go to the ” Shape Tool ” and double click on the middle of the box to create custom nodes.

Now drag the rounded corner of the boxes similar like below.

Put color in it by go to the ” Fountain Fill Tool ” and apply the value below.

Copy the sparkle effect from the Cover side and place it inside the flip side using ” PowerClip Tool “.

And we are done, you can experiments with your own color or texture to the Folder design make it more exciting like the final image below.
