Metacrawlers

Meta Search Engine Characteristics

A meta search engine itself does not index or rank web sites. Instead, it queries multiple web sites simultaneously and will deliver a page of combined results of the best sites from each search engine. The higher you rank on each individual search engine, the higher your site will rank on a meta search engine.
Note: You don't need to submit your site to metacrawlers as they query other search engines to get results.

The Major Metacrawlers

  • Dogpile
Popular metasearch site that sends a search to a customizable list of search engines, directories and specialty search sites, then displays results from each search engine individually. Owned by Go2Net, which also owns MetaCrawler.

  • MetaCrawler
It is one of the oldest meta search services. MetaCrawler queries the top search engines including Altavista, Looksmart, Lycos, GoTo, Direct Hit, Google, and Infoseek (Go Network).

  • Mamma
Sends search requests to major search services, with results a bit heavy from search engines that sell listings.
