The silhouette effect in Canva is a way to turn an image into a solid dark shape against a lighter background. You can achieve this effect with a camera by photographing a backlit object – with the light coming from behind the object.
Step 1 – Open canva and create a design with your desired dimensions.
Step 2 – On the edit toolbar, go to ‘Elements‘ under Photos and search for “Guitar girl“. Click on the photo you want to add.
Step 3 – From edit photo, select ‘Background Remover‘ and remove the background.
Step 4 – Select the photo and click Edit. On the effects menu, choose ‘Duotone‘. Effects > Duotone
Step 5 – Under Duotone, select the ‘Sea Blue‘ effect.
Step 6 – It has two sections, the ‘Highlights’ and the ‘Shadows’.
Step 7 – Change both the “Highlights” and the “Shadows” colors to black. Adjust the intensity how you like it by dragging the intensity button.
Step 8 – Resize and adjust the position of the silhouette.
Step 9 – From the editor side panel, go to the Background tab. Use the search bar to look for “comic background”. Then browse through the results and select an image to use it as your background.
Step 10 – Add the image to your design. Right-click on it, and select “Set Image as Background“.
Step 11 – So now you have your silhouette from the photo you have selected. Here is the final outcome.
Step 12 – You can explore other different backgrounds to get the perfect effect for your silhouette image.
