The Split Screen Typography Text Effect in Canva is a design technique where text is split into two sections, often with each section having a distinct style or color. This effect can be used to create visually striking designs by contrasting different parts of the text against different backgrounds or with varying typographic styles.
Let’s start the tutorial.
Step 1 : Open Canva and Create a new design by selecting the dimensions you want. Go to Text on the left toolbar and click on “Add a heading“. Type your desired text. Here I have typed “Aquatic” Font – “Allura“, Size – 292 and Color – “White“.
Note : Make sure to select the font style which has continuous without any gap between the letters for the entire word for the better effect like below.
Step 2 : Select the text box “Aquatic” to which you want to add the lift effect. Click on the Effects button in the top toolbar. In the Effects menu, select Lift.
Step 3 : Next, go to the “Elements” tab on the left side of the Canva workspace. In the search bar, type “Underwater Background” and press Enter. Elements > Photos > Underwater Background. Choose the one you prefer and add it to your design.
Step 4 : Now arrange the below half part of the text to be on above the Underwater Background photo. Go to Share and select Download and choose your preferred file format (e.g., PNG, JPG, PDF).
Step 5 : Open your web browser and go to photopea.com. Once you’re on the Photopea site, you can click, drag and drop our Png file into it. Hence our Png file open’s and it can be seen there.
Step 6 : On the left toolbar, find and click on the Magic Wand Tool in Photopea editor. In the top toolbar, adjust the Tolerance level. Tolerance controls how similar the selected colors need to be to the pixel you click on. A higher tolerance will select a broader range of colors.
Step 7 : Once your selection is accurate, press the Delete key on your keyboard to remove the selected area. The area will be replaced with transparency or the background color. Hence I have removed the background of the selected area of the below photo.
Step 8 : Click on File in the top-left corner and select Export As to choose a file format. For images with transparency, consider saving as PNG. Export As > PNG and click Save. The file will be downloaded to your computer.
Step 9 : Go to the Uploads tab on the left side of the editor in Canva. Drag and drop the downloaded png file directly into the Uploads tab.
Step 10 : In the search bar at the top of the sidebar, type “Jumping dolphin” and press Enter. Elements > Jumping dolphin. Click on the image you want to use. The selected photo will be added to your design.
Step 11 : Once the photo is on your design canvas, you can resize it by dragging the corners or edges and move it to back. Now you should be able to effectively copy or replicate text “Aquatic” with the effects from a photo in Canva.
And there you go! You’ve successfully created a Split Screen Typography Text Effect using two photos from Canva and incorporated it into your design.
Hope you liked the tutorial.
