How to animate in canva

There are 4 ways to animate in Canva:

  1. Animate a Page
  2. Animate Text, Photos, and Elements individually
  3. Use an animated graphic
  4. Animate a graphic on a customized path

In this tutorial, you will learn how to animate in Canva. In this tutorial, we are using a Canva readymade template but you can create your own combination of photos, elements, and text. 

1. Animate a Page

Step 1: Click outside the canvas so that no element is selected. 

Step 2: Click the Animate button

Step 3: Select from the predefined page animation options. All the elements on the Page will be animated in one click. In our case, we are using the combination ‘Disco’.

Step 4: Congratulations! You’re Done! Download as MP4 Video and use. Click the play button on the video below to see the final result.

2. Animate Text, Photos and Elements individually

Step 1: Select a text, photo, or element. In our case, we will first select the text ‘Birthday’.

Step 2: Click the Animate button. Depending on whether you selected text, a photo, or an element, the Animate button location will change and so will the animation options. You will also get an option to create your own custom animation by clicking on ‘Create an Animation’, but we will look into that later. For now, select any of the readymade animation options you want and you’re done! We will select the ‘Breathe’ option.

Step 3: Select the photo and animate it. We will select the ‘Pop’ option.

Step 4: Select the element and animate it. We will select the heart element and animate it with the ‘Tectonic’ option.

Step 5: You’re done! View your animation by clicking the Playback button.

Step 6: Click Share > Download and Select MP4 Video or Gif as the File Type. Download and use your animation. Click the play button on the video below to see the final result.

3. Use an animated graphic

Canva has various animated elements which can be used to add a little animation. We can find and use these directly.

Step 1: Search for the element you want. In our case we will search for ‘heart’

Step 2: Select ‘animated’ in the filter.

Step 3: Choose from the animated elements that appear.

Step 5. Position and resize the animated element and you’re done.

Step 6. Download as MP4 video or Gif and use. Click the play button on the video below to see the final result.

4. Custom Animation

Step 1. Select the element you want to animate. Click the ‘Animate’ button. Click ‘Create an Animation’.

Step 2: Drag the element on the path you want it to animate.

Step 3: Adjust the speed of the animation and the smoothness until you are satisfied. We will use the ‘Smooth’ Movement Style. Click the Done button. If you are not satisfied, you can delete the path by clicking the ‘Delete Path’ button, and draw the path again.

Step 4. Congratulations! You’re done! View your animation and download it as MP4 Video or Gif to use. Click the play button on the video below to see the final result.
