This tutorial is very simple. Once you download the brushes, using the brush tool, choose different colors and brushes in different layers and create a beautiful watercolor paint colorful background. Have fun with these brushes and create something amazing!

Start by creating a new document 2000 x 2000 px. See details below.

The main steps you need to follow are as follows :

  1. Create a separate layer for each brush stroke, so you can delete the strokes you don’t need later
  2. Choose a different color and a different brush so you get a beautiful colorful paint style background

I have taken screenshots to show you step by step of how I got the result you see on top. I’m sure you will get even better results the more you play around with the brushes. Just have fun and create an awesome colorful paint splash background effect!

The below screenshots show the colors I have chosen and the brushes selected with the end result on the canvas. You can see, as the colors merge they become more vibrant and bright. If you want the colors to be darker, you can just apply the same stroke twice and you will get a brighter color. I have kept the brushes the default size so they take up a large part of the canvas. Each layer is basically one click of the brush tool.

Here I have changed the Swatches to Web Safe Colors and chosen colors from there.

Note: I later deleted this later. It is useful to keep each stroke and color in a different layer so that if you don’t like it later you can easily delete it.

Finally I added a few more strokes in the same colors to give some highlights and overlays and I removed one layer and here is the end result of a colorful splash paint background!

You can also experiment with air brush and wet edges under brush tip shape in the brushes panel to get variations of the paint effects.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and get some great ideas on designing colorful paint backgrounds.
